Can you tell us a bit about your background and how it influenced your entrepreneurial journey?
My background is in healthcare, specifically as a Sonographer, a field I've been passionate about for the past 13 years. I specialize in high-risk obstetrics, which can be both incredibly rewarding and emotionally challenging. This dynamic environment has taught me a lot about resilience, empathy, and the importance of adaptability. What I love about healthcare is that it’s a field that never stands still—there's always something new to learn, whether it's advancements in technology, new research, or evolving best practices. This constant evolution has kept me motivated and deeply engaged in my work for over a decade.
However, during the pandemic, I realized how quickly things can change. I decided I didn't want to dream about opening a business but rather start making it happen. Growing up, I was inspired by my mom, who ran her own business. I witnessed firsthand the long hours, tough decisions, and challenges she faced, but I also saw the immense satisfaction and joy she derived from it. Her entrepreneurial journey ignited a spark in me, and I realized that I, too, wanted to build something of my own—something that aligned with my passion for design.
Can you share a pivotal moment when you began to truly embrace self-love?
A pivotal moment when I truly embraced self-love came early in my entrepreneurial journey. The first year of running my business was full of challenges, and I found myself overwhelmed, pushing too hard and neglecting my own well-being. It wasn’t until I reached a breaking point that I realized I wasn’t showing myself the same compassion I gave others. I learned that self-love isn’t about being perfect—it’s about acknowledging my efforts, accepting my mistakes, and giving myself grace. Since then, I’ve made self-care a priority, setting boundaries and celebrating progress!
Can you share a specific affirmation that has been particularly powerful for you and why?
The affirmation that has been most powerful for me is "My potential is limitless." This simple phrase reminds me that no matter the challenges I face, there are always opportunities for growth and success. It helps me push past self-doubt and stay focused on the bigger picture. It’s a constant reminder that I can achieve more than I think, and that my journey is only limited by my own mindset.
How do you integrate creativity into your everyday life?
I never really thought of myself as a "creative" person growing up. I didn’t excel at the traditional forms of creativity, like painting or drawing, so it wasn’t something I considered myself particularly good at. However, that all changed when I bought my first home. As I began collecting pieces to furnish and style it, I realized that creativity wasn’t just about artistic talent—it was about creating a space where you truly felt at home. That’s when my love for design really blossomed, and the idea for my shop started to take shape.
The motto for the shop, Form & Function, came from this realization. While there will always be those perfectly styled, magazine-worthy homes, the truth is, we can’t live in them. Real life is messy, and homes need to be functional as well as beautiful. I wanted my shop to offer pieces that weren’t just aesthetically pleasing but also practical and inviting, pieces that people could enjoy in their everyday lives.
Opening the shop has been a perfect outlet for my creativity. It’s given me the chance to design new spaces, explore different styles, and experiment with new ideas. Helping customers find pieces that make their homes feel more like theirs is incredibly fulfilling, and it’s what keeps me inspired—even through those late nights of brainstorming or planning new designs. It’s a creative outlet that blends both design and practicality, and it’s become a huge part of my daily life and passion.
